Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY “AUNT LYDIA’S” HEAVY RUG YARN, Article 235 10 skeins Cerise or Forest Green 4 skeins Lilac or Turquoise and “AUNT LYDIA’S” STAR SPUN, Article 235 8 skeins Gold. Aluminum crochet hook size H Large tapestry needle for sewing Each diamond measures 614 inches in length x 3-1/2 inches at widest point, 33 diamonds and 16 half diamonds are required for rug measuring 19 inches x 34 inches without border.

Diamond: With Lilac chain (ch) 2, 3 single crochet (sc) in 2nd stitch (st) from hook, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row. 1 double loop st in each sc (double loop st: wind yarn over index finger twice, insert hook in st, draw yarn through pulling yarn from under index finger, drop loops from finger letting loops fall to right side of work and complete sc), ch 1, turn.

3rd Row. 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn.

4th Row. 1 double loop st in each sc, ch 1, turn.

5th Row. 2 sc in next double loop st, 1 sc in each st working 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn.

Repeat last 2 rows twice.

Materials Required-AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY “GEM” COTTON YARN 2 80-yd. Skeins Red and 2 80-yd. Skeins Green. Bone Crochet Hook No. 6 or 7.

With Red ch 45, sl st in 2nd st from hook, 1 sl st in each of the next 5 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 32 sts, 1 sl st in each of the next 6 sts. Ch 1 , turn.

Next Row-Sl st in each of the next 6 sts, 1 sc taking up the back loop of st only, in each of the next 32 sc, 1 sl st in each of the next 6 sl sts. Drop Red. With White, ch 1 , turn and repeat last 2 rows.

Continue working Red and White until there are 46 stripes. Sew ball together. (more…)

BOTTOM . . . Starting at center with Spanish Red, ch 2. 1st rnd: 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around.

3rd rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased). Repeat from * around.

4th rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing 7 sc evenly around. Repeat 4th rnd until piece measures 9? inches in diameter. Place a marker.

Next rnd: Working in back loop only, sc in each sc around. Following rnd: Sc in each sc around, decreasing 7 sc evenly around—to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc.
