Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY “AUNT LYDIA’S” HEAVY RUG YARN, Article 235 10 skeins Cerise or Forest Green 4 skeins Lilac or Turquoise and “AUNT LYDIA’S” STAR SPUN, Article 235 8 skeins Gold. Aluminum crochet hook size H Large tapestry needle for sewing Each diamond measures 614 inches in length x 3-1/2 inches at widest point, 33 diamonds and 16 half diamonds are required for rug measuring 19 inches x 34 inches without border.
Diamond: With Lilac chain (ch) 2, 3 single crochet (sc) in 2nd stitch (st) from hook, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. 1 double loop st in each sc (double loop st: wind yarn over index finger twice, insert hook in st, draw yarn through pulling yarn from under index finger, drop loops from finger letting loops fall to right side of work and complete sc), ch 1, turn.
3rd Row. 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn.
4th Row. 1 double loop st in each sc, ch 1, turn.
5th Row. 2 sc in next double loop st, 1 sc in each st working 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn.
Repeat last 2 rows twice.
10th Row. Repeat 4th row (11 loop sts in row).
11th Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row (to decrease: insert hook in 1st st, pull loop through, insert hook in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off all sts at one time), 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts, decrease in next 2 sts in same manner as before, ch 1, turn.
12th Row. 1 double loop st in each sc. Repeat the last 2 rows having 2 sts less in every sc row until 3 loop sts remain, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. * Insert hook in next st, pull loop through, repeat from * twice, yarn over and work off all loops at one time, ch 1, cut yarn.
Work 32 more diamonds in same manner working 10 more Lilac, 10 Cerise and 12 Gold.
Work 16 half diamonds in Gold by working 1st 10 rows of diamond.
Sew each diamond according to chart.
Border: With right side of work toward you, attach Cerise in 1st st of half Gold Diamond on long side of rug, sc in same space, sc in each of the next 10 loop sts, * 2 double crochet (dc) between joining, 1 sc in each of the next 11 loop sts, repeat from * 4 times, 1 dc in next joining, 2 sc in next st (corner), * 2 sc in next row, repeat from * once, 1 sc in each row of diamonds, repeat in same manner working each corner to correspond, join, ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. 1 double loop st in each st, join, ch 1, turn.
3rd Row. 1 sc in each st increasing 4 sts evenly spaced around each corner, ch 1, turn.
Repeat last 2 rows twice, then repeat 2nd row once.
9th Row. 1 sl st in each st, cut yarn.
